The final episode of the season appears to be setting things up for a follow on season rather than end things definitively. As of this writing there is no renewal in process for a second season.
This episode opens with a car accident which is later revealed to be an attempt on Saul's life. He is taken to the United Nations and declared one of three Wallfacers whose mission is to strategize and think about how to defeat the San Ti. Their mission is a secret and they are not required to reveal their thoughts or intentions to anyone.
The launch of Staircase Project turns out to be unsuccessful as one of the sail clips comes loose and the probe veers off course. The show ends with a virtual visit from the San Ti who then threaten and warn Thomas Wade that they will be watching him and controlling what he sees for the rest of his life.

Conclusion
All in all a good sci-fi show and season. I particularly like the whole premise of the three body problem with a planet caught in orbit around three suns. The plight of a young educated and highly intelligent girl who watches her father mercilessly killed reaching out to an alien species with the true belief that we can not save ourselves. The pure science fiction of the devices, the sophons and the feasibility of our response was also well laid out but did take a lot of time to establish, albeit necessary. My complaint about TV lately is that seasons are too short, only eight episodes makes for a rushed story even if there are nuances that must be explained. I look forward and hope for more seasons.
