Platea in Pinecrest

Self proclaimed first Peruvian inspired steakhouse in the world and New Times proclaimed best Miami Steakhouse of 2023, this restaurant is a gem in a nice suburban hideaway. Just behind the Chipotle, Platea is easy to miss when driving south on US1....and missing something quite special you would if you kept driving past it.

I would say the praise this restaurant receives is well deserved. I am pleasantly surprised and happy that this place exists and will definitely be returning for different dishes. I luckily showed up for Tomahawk Tuesday which is one of their weekly specials.

Interior

A classy wood theme sports the inside of the restaurant with slower music.

Caesar Salad

A semi-decomposed caesar salad with wood-fired romaine, grana padano cheese and boquerones on top. Quite tasty and quite a surprise when I received it as it was not like other caesar salads I've had that are swimming in sauce componsed of mashed anchovies. These are laid on top of the dish.

Tomahawk Steak with mushrooms seasoned with truffle oil and umami

The star of the show and the weekly special that draws people to the restaurant is the Tomahawk steak. It is quite a show upon presentation and very tasty as well. I wanted to eat the whole of the steak so did not want to have the mashed potatoes with cheese, caviar and garlic confit. Though next time I will have to try this side. The steak is topped with umami butter that is then blow-torched for smokiness.

Chocolate dessert

Not on the menu but a layered chocolate cake with cream served with vanilla ice cream,  strawberries, raspberries, blueberries and chocolate syrup. If that is not enough, it is served with frozen rose petals and a dry ice pour for presentation.
