I've been working in Homestead all week and to cap off the end of my Homestead visit (likely the first of many to come), I decided to try a restaurant known for its ambience as well as its good food. Encouraged to make a reservation when I called, White Lion Cafe definitely fits the bill of a good date place, neighborhood restaurant or classy hang out for good southern or continental food. The waitress informed me that the menu changes weekly which only adds to White Lion's charm. Having been in business since 1989, about 44 years, White Lion certainly knows how to make a good dish or two.
The inside is a very comfortably decorated and has a warmly inviting setting which had slower 80s music playing (Elton John). It is not spacious but is answered by a large amount of outdoor seating.
While the back has ample outdoor seating which probably is better in the winter, the restaurant is so popular it gets a lot of use even in the summer.
I had the appetizer which was a mushroom stuffed with cheese with fresh parmesan shavings. I was served a salad with home-made ranch dressing before my main course, the "Mom's Wish" which consisted of sauteed lobster meat, jumbo shrimp, scallops, cherry tomatoes and scallions in a light cream sauce. I was given fresh parmesan cheese to sprinkle over it and it was delicious.
Because the menu changes weekly, I am certain I would never be bored at this restaurant and certainly the clientele is aware of this. Yelp reviews had people leaving glowing comments about the fried chicken which was not to be found on this week's menu. I usually dont leave a copy of the menu but will for this restaurant since it is so timely.
