Bachour in Coral Gables
In the heart of Coral Gables is a nice bakery/restaurant with a very nice outdoor area as well as bright clean inside area perfect for brunches and dinners alike. Bachour has several locations including Doral and The Collection car dealership. A Michelin bib gourmand restaurant, Bachour holds its own in terms of quality and customer experience. The chef, Antonio Bachour, grew up in Puerto Rico and had been around the world for training before coming back to open his own restaurant and bakery in 2019. As a finalist in the 2011 International Chef Congress Pastry Competition and ranking as a "top ten pastry chef," he provides his talent to the Miami community.
Having gone on a weekend brunch, it was not overly busy and I was able to enjoy the ambiance of the place, music like the Postal Service "Such Great Heights" were playing creating a cozy, relaxed atmosphere. I wanted to try a variety so I ordered coffee, short rib appetizer and the croque madame sandwich with sunny side up egg over it.
After reading the daily news and sipping my coffee, I was ready for my meal...
Sticky baby back ribs
Slow cooked baby back ribs, still on the bone and in an asian sauce. It was a very thick sauce that tasted like soy sauce with a hint of sweet plum in it. Not quite the dish that pairs well with my breakfast, but I wanted to try an additional dish and I can never say no to ribs when I see it on the menu. The sesame seeds give it a good presentation contrast to the otherwise dark colors.
Next is onto the breakfast food...
Croque Madame
A Ham and gruyere sandwich on toasted pain de mie bread. It had a sunny side up egg served over it, which was a nice touch especially if you love runny yolk with your breakfast food.
The breakfast sandwich was delicious as the bread had a nice crisp crust to it after presumably being pan cooked, the interior of the sandwich was filled to the brim with ham and cheese and the runny yolk was good to tie everything together.
Manjari
The stars of the show for me were the pastries and desserts. The Manjari was a dark cacao chocolate and the decorations on top were also chocolate. Valrhona 64% dark chocolate mousse, vanilla bean cremeux, and chocolate hazelnut cake. Truly delicious!
The pastries are frankly works of art and you truly realize how food can brighten your day when you see these delectable treats!
Peach and Mandarin
Bachour Pastries
The pastries at Bachour are excellent and make this place worth the trip. They run the gamut from macarons and bonbons to viennoiseries to petit gâteau. I would return and only have pastries and be quite satisfied with it as I later feel guilty and drive to the gym.
