This episode is one of reveals. The plot thickens as we learn that it is not all sunshine and rainbows with Mike Evans and the San-Ti. After revealing that we as a species are capable of lying and often do even inadvertantly, the San-Ti are taken aback as their species and civil. We learn more of how things work in the organization that has been recruiting the best of the best for the purpose of "welcoming" the San-Ti. The ship "Judgment Day," in the 1980s contained all of the components needed to communicate with the San-Ti. Now, it houses the members of the organization including children. It resembles a cult of sorts. However, their God exists and is en route to conquer the planet.

Reveals this episode

  • Mike Evans and Ye Wenjie had a relationship in the 1980s and started the whole organization that is currently at play.
  • The aliens are reverently referred to as "lord" by both Mike Evans and Ye Wenjie and everyone else in the organization.
  • The aliens communicate telepathically and almost instantaneously, as such, they are incapable of lying and find it difficult to conceive of the notion.
  • The aliens have recently become afraid of the organization and Mike Evans after learning that humans lie frequently.

Analysis

This story  has done an amazing job of having us empathize, sympathize and cheer for Ye Wenjie only to have a twist reveal of her being the leader of the strange happenings in the world. Having been through adversity before and with a lifelong faith in the San-Ti, she is unshakeable in the face of major opposition even while in custody.

The suspense builds with who the San-Ti are, what they look like and what are their intentions.

Lingering Questions

  • There are a lot of dead physicists, why and what is the connection? Is this part of a pre-invasion preparation to prevent Earth from having good enough technology to defend itself?
