Lazy Lobster in Key Largo
Recommended by locals, Lazy Lobster in Key Largo is a nice little pit stop in Key Largo a decent place for lunch and good selection of menu items. The interior is quaint, comforting and inviting. The rear of the restaurant has a nice shaded patio for the cooler months. While I was there, they played 80s rock music the whole time including some songs from "The Cure." The food is above average and the service is attentive and outstanding.
Seating
Comfortable air conditioned interior or a shady ceiling fan patio.
Stone Crab Claws
You can never go wrong with delicious stone crab claws, especially when in season.
Lazy Conch
Conch topped with cheese, tomato and scallions.
Jalapeno Lobster Bites
Lobster rolled in Jalapeno bread crumbs and fried. Served with the familiar key lime butter with garlic and cilantro. A delicious dish.
Lazy Lobster Roll
I liked the lobster roll, the lobster was cooked with a seasoned mayonnaise but it tasted more like butter. The side was potato salad (you can have vegetables or french fries instead) and the dipping sauce was similar to that it was cooked in, which was a key lime butter with garlic. The dish was very heavy on the garlic, which suits me just fine but may not be as suitable for most. I did not believe there was any mayo in it at all until I went back and read the menu.
Grouper Matecumbe Sandwich
A baked grouper topped with matecumbe (shallots, capers, basil, tomatoes, garlic, lemon and olive oil) served with lettuce and tomato on a kaiser roll with cole slaw.
Coconut Cake
I am not much of a dessert person. I liked the cake.
Lunch and Dinner Menu
Conclusion
I'd go back for lunch. I'd like to sample more from their dinner menu. They have a lot of happy hour specials and seem like they cater to the local crowd which is always nice.
