Chef Michaels in Islamorada

Chef_Michaels_Outside

A nice place where the menu changes seasonally, with lots of fresh fish that dictate what is available for that day, Chef Michaels serves the best tasting fish that Islamadora offers. While they have a good selection of steaks and when I went, had prime rib, they are known for their seafood:

FRESH FISH & SEAFOOD, selection changes daily

  • Lionfish
  • Snowy Grouper
  • Sea Scallops
  • Tripletail
  • Yellowtail Snapper
  • Hogfish

Once a fish is chosen you then choose how you'd like it cooked:

  • "Pontchartrain" blackened then topped with crawfish in a piquant Creole cream
  • "Ambassador" sautéed w/ crabmeat, shiitake's, capers & key lime butter
  • "Juliette" seared w/ shrimp, scallops, chardonnay butter & toasted almonds
  • "Adriatic" grilled & napped with our olive oil and herb concoction
  • "Mixed Nuts" pistachio, cashew & macadamia crusted, served w/ mango sauce
  • Simply Grilled, Sautéed, Fried or Blackened

Interior

A warm and inviting wood interior. It felt classy there with Frank Sinatra playing when I visited.

Lobster and Shrimp Ceviche

Lobster and Shrimp Ceviche

I like that this is served in a small coconut, it makes for a nice tropical feel while eating a nice ceviche sauce.

PontChartrain Tripletail fish

PontChartrain Triplefish

The hogfish wasnt available the day I went, but they did have tripletail. I didnt know which of their preparations to try, so on the advice of the waiter, I went with the PontChartrain. I think next time I may try the "Ambassador" style. The pontchartrain was a nicely blacked fish but with enough creole sauce not to give it extra liquid and flavor.

Creme Brulee Dessert

Creme Brulee

A nicely made Creme Brulee, not runny or clumpy with a nice thin layer of caramel on top.

Conclusion

A good place to go if you are in the Upper Keys. I plan to try each of the different types of fish and preparation styles. Eventually I will try some of their non-seafood dishes, like their steak, prime rib
