In my first trip to Alaine's Osteria in Palmetto Bay, I was elated at the quality of the food and the service, especially for a neighborhood restaurant. I am certain to make this a regular stop and sample the changing menu and brighten my spirits with the cheerful crowd and pleasant atmosphere of the restaurant.

This time around we had two appetizers, the soft shell crab and the calamari fritto, both were delicious but my favorite of the two was the calamari, which had a fresh and lightly fried taste to it. The soft shell crab was delicious and the accompanying greens had a nice tangy taste which offset the soft shell crab that had a hint of being cooked in white wine.

For dinner we had Scottish Grilled Salmon over a bed of vegetables served with creamy pesto sauce. The salmon was seared and had interior tender texture which had a light flavor that was complemented by the slightly heavier pesto sauce.  As much as I love and have a weakness for bacon and short rib, I have the same for risotto and when I saw it on the menu I had to order it. Their seafood risotto came with lobster tail, shrimp, calamari, oysters, with a creamy saffron sauce. We also had the Malafemmina which was a seafood medley of shrimp, clams, mussels and lobster served over a bed of linguini served with white clam sauce. Of these three dishes, I would place the Malafemmina dish as the best followed by the Seafood Risotto, then the Grilled Salmon. However, they are all such different dishes it would likely boil down to what type of food you are in the mood to have at that time.

Finally for dessert, we were told by the staff that all desserts are homemade. We had the Profiteroles a la mode which is a chocolate covered puff pastry with a vanilla custard. I also ordered the affogato which is a vanilla ice cream served with coffee. This really hit the spot and I am already looking forward to my third visit.
